No folder to clean up
A Dropbox request fills a folder that stays until someone deletes it. In Sunset Docs, every document has a deletion date from the moment it arrives.
A Dropbox file request is a link that lets anyone upload files into a folder in your Dropbox, with or without a Dropbox account, up to 2 GB per file on Basic, Plus and Family or 250 GB on Professional, Essentials and team plans. It is a good way to collect files you will keep. For sensitive documents you only need for a few days, a temporary intake inbox with watermarked previews and automatic deletion fits better.
No card required. Up to 10 received files.

Your team checks documents as watermarked page images. The original is only downloaded if the workspace owner allows it, and the download is recorded.
IDs and bank statements stay out of the Dropbox folders your team syncs to laptops and phones, and out of your storage quota.
Everything below comes from Dropbox's own help pages on file requests and requesting files from others.
To edit or close a request later, open the Opened tab, click the request and choose Save or Close request.
The limit depends on the plan of the person who creates the request, not the uploader.
| Requester's Dropbox plan | Largest file a request accepts |
|---|---|
| Basic, Plus, Family | 2 GB |
| Professional, Essentials, Business, Business Plus, Standard, Advanced, Enterprise | 250 GB |
A file request solves collection. It does not decide what happens next. The files become ordinary Dropbox files, available wherever that folder is synced or shared, and kept until someone deletes them. That is fine for photos, drafts and project deliverables. It is less suitable for documents you only need to look at once:
For those, Sunset Docs works as a temporary inbox. Senders use an upload link, a QR code at your counter or a dedicated email address. Your team sees watermarked previews in the browser, and each document is deleted on its date, including originals, previews, keys, file names and sender details. Deletion keeps running even if a trial ends or a payment fails.

| Automatic deletion | Not described in the file request help | Required, 1 hour to 365 days |
It does not store files permanently, sign documents or replace a document management system. It cannot stop someone photographing a screen; the watermark discourages and traces reuse. Health or other special-category data, criminal records, children's data, full card numbers, passwords and private keys are not supported by default. Encrypted database backup residuals expire within 30 days, not instantly.
No. Dropbox says anyone can send files to a file request, with or without an account. Uploaders who are not signed in may be asked for their name and email.
Up to 2 GB per file if the person who created the request is on Basic, Plus or Family, and up to 250 GB on Professional, Essentials, Business, Business Plus, Standard, Advanced and Enterprise. Uploaded files also count against the requester's storage.
No. Dropbox says uploaders do not see other people's files in the target folder and cannot browse your account. The folder is private unless you share it.
Dropbox's file request help does not describe automatic deletion. Uploaded files are ordinary files in your folder and stay there until someone removes them or your own retention rules do.
No. Sunset Docs accepts up to 10 files per submission, 20 MB each and 25 MB in total, in PDF and common image formats. For video, design files or large archives, a Dropbox file request is the better choice.
